Play is the Universal Language of Childhood
Play is essential for all children, it is how they interact with the world and make sense of their place in it. It supports all areas of development and is their natural means of communication.
Through play, children are learning, rehearsing, experimenting and discovering how to cope with difficult feelings, using a creative medium to express themselves. They are able to work through traumatic events that may be causing emotional dysregulation, in the presence of an attuned, supportive and highly skilled therapist.
Through creative activity and metaphor a child can address difficult emotions, using play and metaphor to create a degree of distance from upsetting experiences. Ellie offers a creative ‘toolkit’ to all clients ranging from the sand tray and miniatures to clay, paint, music and much more.
What is Play Therapy?
The safety of the therapeutic relationship provides opportunities for children and young people to explore thoughts and feelings paving the way for healthy emotional and cognitive development. By understanding a child’s play, a Play Therapist helps the young person to embark on the reflective discovery of deep therapeutic change.
Using an integrative, holistic model, Ellie meets each client exactly where they are, fully accepting them and following their lead in the therapy space to enable deep healing and growth, utilising a range of directive and non-directive techniques.
If this sounds like something your child or young person would benefit from, please get in touch and we can arrange a free, no obligation consultation.
“Ellie, I really don’t know how to express how thankful I am that you helped our daughter, I honestly don’t know where we would be now if it wasn’t for you. You have given us our daughter back; she is happy, confident and doing amazingly at everything she does – she is far from that timid, shy girl who walked into your room a year ago, and that’s thanks to you. You are a beautiful human and you’ll never know how grateful we are for everything you have done for us and our little girl”.
