Play Therapy Services
Here are some of the Play Therapy services I currently offer. If you have any questions or would like to ask me about the process of Play Therapy, I will be only too happy to speak with you and explore how we can best work together.
I opened my private therapy space in North Cornwall to support clients in a bespoke therapeutic environment in Spring 2023 and look forward to welcoming you.
Play and Creative Arts Therapy
Every child is unique – sometimes they experience problems with feelings or behaviours that cause disruption to their lives and the lives of those around them. You may be concerned about a child’s development, eating or sleeping patterns and how they are getting along with family, friends and at school. Play therapy can empower children and increase self esteem to manage their individual situation.
For children aged 3-11 I offer Play Therapy. For young people aged 12-18 I offer Creative Therapy. Both therapeutic interventions are rooted in a person-centered, non-directive model, however the toolkit differs slightly depending on the client’s age and developmental stage.
Following a free initial consultation, and if this felt like my play therapy services are the right path for your child, we would begin weekly 1:1 sessions with a recommended minimum of 12 sessions. Each 45 minute session can be held in the child’s place of education if suitable, or we could discuss a neutral setting.
Parenting Support
Having undertaken my own conscious parenting journey as I raise my two young children, I am passionate about supporting parents on their journey. Our children are very much the mirrors being held up to show us the parts of ourselves that need healing, so the very act of parenting can become entwined with uncovering our own childhood wounds that may be triggered by our children’s behaviour. Together we can plan a piece of work to look compassionately at your childhood, what triggers might be coming up for you, your child’s behaviours that you’d like support with, and how to build capacity in your nervous system, so that you are able to parent from an intentional, grounded place.
Training for Schools/Educational Settings
Having been in education for 12 years prior to becoming a therapist, I am well aware of the huge pressure on schools to meet a vast array of needs in the classroom before any teaching and learning can take place. I work with both primary and secondary schools to deliver training to staff to consider accessible neuroscientific theory regarding dysregulation and our nervous system, such as the Window of Tolerance and Poly Vagal Theory. Through application of these groundbreaking approaches and exploring practical strategies, we can help pupils manage arousal levels and optimise a state of readiness to learn which can only occur through a regulated nervous system. This is not trauma specific, this is human specific.
“Our little boy is now more confident in communicating his thoughts and feelings, more engaging, has great friendships and is generally more at ease since his time with Ellie”.
